Red Wing is a small city (population ~16,500) in Goodhue County, southeastern Minnesota, located on a bend of the Mississippi River.

It has deep Native American roots — named after the Dakota chief Tatankamani, also called “Red Wing.”

Historically, it was a major wheat shipping center in the 1800s.

Red Wing is known for its manufacturing: Red Wing Shoes, stoneware pottery, and other industries remain important.

The city has scenic natural features, especially Barn Bluff (He Mni Can), a bluff overlooking the Mississippi which is culturally significant.
