  • Red Wing is a small city (population ~16,500) in Goodhue County, southeastern Minnesota, located on a bend of the Mississippi River.

  • It has deep Native American roots — named after the Dakota chief Tatankamani, also called “Red Wing.” 

  • Historically, it was a major wheat shipping center in the 1800s.

  • Red Wing is known for its manufacturing: Red Wing Shoes, stoneware pottery, and other industries remain important. 

  • The city has scenic natural features, especially Barn Bluff (He Mni Can), a bluff overlooking the Mississippi which is culturally significant.

  • It’s also a cultural hub: home to the historic Sheldon Theatre (built 1904) and a charming downtown with historic architecture. 

  • There are strong outdoor recreation opportunities: hiking, river cruises, and parks along the river.

  • Barn Bluff and Sorin's Bluff: Go for a hike to see geologic formations and enjoy stunning views.
  • Memorial Park: Drive or hike up to this park on Sorin's Bluff for panoramic views of the Mississippi River and the city. It's a great spot for sunrises and sunsets.

Red Wing MN is about 1 hour southwest of Twin Cities, high way 61 is the main road driving down to the city, you will have a pretty scenery especially driving in the fall.
